Optimum Health - For Life is a world leader of Health & Fitness information and provides comprehensive educational tools for Health & Fitness professionals, Emergency Preparedness personnel, Sports Enthusiasts, and all concerned Individuals who are searching for "real" information based on scientific, clinical, medical, and sports medicine research.

Certification programs and health information have been provided on this web site to assist everyone in overcoming the "Health Speak" that abounds in North America and the rest of the world. Surveys continue to reveal that most people, including athletes, are not following an optimum eating regimen and look to the "professionals" and the manufacturers of products for advise. Still, other surveys indicate that the majority of people believe they are "eating good." That is, UNTIL they suffer their first serious medical problem! Then, the tendency is to go to the "professionals" in an effort to "treat the symptom." And, as soon as the symptom is relieved, they go back to making the same poor choices that created the problem in the first place.  Hence, the symptom continues to reoccur -- unless they make better lifestyle choices through education!!

Optimum Health - For Life understands that even the "professionals" are confused and knows that reliable information is very difficult to find and cannot always be trusted; especially when there is "profit motive" involved. ( Optimum Health - For Life does NOT sponsor or promote any nutritional products or brand of nutritional supplements or fitness equipment. )

"Informed consumers make better choices ... but, educated consumers make the best LIFESTYLE choices," J. Ross-Wilkinson, author of "NUTRITION -- THE MISSING LINK: Personalizing Optimum Performance," textbook for the Internationally acclaimed SPORTS NUTRITION SPECIALIST [SNS] certification module.

According to Cambridge University geneticist Aubrey de Grey "The first person to live to be 1,000 years old is certainly alive today ... whether they realize it or not, barring accidents and suicide, most people now 40 years or younger can expect to live for centuries." Does this sound outrageous?   Maybe so.  But, anti-aging researchers are increasingly optimistic that aging can be slowed down dramatically, or even prevented altogether.   Even the US Federal Government has devoted funds, to the tune of $2.4 billion a year, to study the "biology of aging."   The race for a "proverbial fountain of youth" is on.

There are radical innovations going on in technology today that will literally enable us to effectively extend our lifespan by as much as 50 years.   And, it is likely that technology will surface within the next 20 years.   Given your lifestyle today how old will you live to be? And, given the forthcoming new technologies, how old might you live to be if you take advantage of these new technologies?   Take the FREE Lifespan Test created by one of the "Gurus of Anti-Aging Medicine," Dr Ronald Klatz....

A team of scientists at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, led by Dr Youfa Wang, reported on July 25, 2007 "If the rate of obesity and overweight continues at this pace, by 2015, 75 percent of adults and nearly 24% of US children and adolescents will be overweight or obese."  (Comparing the statistics reported by state Public Health Departments from 1985 - 2004.)

It's going to be frightening to see where the state by state statistics will be in 2007...

Until recently, diet-related approaches to health were usually dismissed due to poor understanding of how food nourishes our bodies. The discovery of individual nutrients and a deeper knowledge of their chemical purposes within the body has opened the door to a different approach and more acceptance for supplementation.

Nutritional supplementation is one of the MANY tools Health Practitioners and Fitness Professionals can now use to address many overall general health issues. Although its practice is not yet widely used among physicians, or even fully accepted as "necessary," numerous affirming studies continue to support supplementation. So, how important are the B Vitamins to overall general health?

One of the major reasons most people do not make "better" choices is because they rely on the traditional recipes that are familiar to them.   Here are some recipes that are healthier alternatives to many of the traditional favorites that most people believe they cannot live without. Total Food Value (TFV) of each macro-nutrient is summarized for each recipe & serving.

"Coulda, Oughta, Woulda, Shoulda" [ COWS ] = SYNDROME X
In 1998 it became official, the World Health Organization (WHO) summarized the bad news by officially calling Syndrome X the "Metabolic Syndrome."  Gerald Reaven, MD, in the late 1980's, using medical evidence, showed a clustering of major health risk factors connected with cardiovascular disease and insulin resistance.  Syndrome X is also known as "Insulin Resistance Syndrome" and even the "Deadly Quartet."

No matter what you call it - it is one of the most preventable diseases of Western Civilization and is quickly becoming one of the most prevalent diseases of mankind, and one of the most costly in terms of premature mortality. TRANSLATION?   Jenni Ross-Wilkinson, the author of "NUTRITION -- THE MISSING LINK:  Personalizing Optimum Performance" recommends: "Ditch all the COWS ["Coulda, Oughta, Woulda, Shoulda"] excuses before it's too late"!  Learn what you can do to prevent becoming a casualty in the war on obesity.

So, are you like most people, confused about the quality of protein and how to know what would be better choices for you?  Of course, you are . . . if you rely on the advertisements on the foods or supplements you aim to purchase. One thing for sure, you know THEIR PRODUCT is the best, cause the label says so!

Protein value is measured a few different ways: Biological Value (BV), Protein Efficiency Ratio (PER), and the newest one called Protein Digestability Corrected Amino Acid Score (PDCAAS) ... whew, that's a mouth full!   We see a lot of words written today about PER cause it's a convenient way to "dumb it down" (make it simple) so everybody has an easy way to know how much protein they need.  But, what else do you need to know?   Here's the scoop!

Here is a food that should be getting a lot of attention from the media, but it has been "flying under the radar" for far too many years now.  I know many of you are eating Soy products and think Soy is supposed to "boost your health," "be a complete source of Protein," so you probably believe it's great because of the "brain washing" tactics of those who are selling those products.  Think this is too strong a position to take?  Well, we have no reason to deceive you and we don't have any agenda except to give you the real facts.   You owe it to yourself to take a few minutes to read this information and decide for yourself...

It seems like a cruel trick -- you exercise your body more for a couple of days and suddenly you are too tired and too sore to stay on the program.  You have a sore throat, maybe even a low grade fever to boot!  Exercising is making you ill -- so you give it up.   It just doesn't make any sense that "getting fit" should be such a hard thing to do.   After all -- you're not a masochist!   This is a familiar problem for far too many people who have made attempts to "get fit" by exercising more without knowing what else they need to do to win the battle!

So, what are they missing, what don't they understand?   Did they just try to do too much, too fast?   Maybe they didn't drink enough water?   Maybe they didn't fuel with the right "stuff" before or after the workout?   Maybe they didn't stretch enough or do the right stretching?   One thing for sure ... it was too much DRAMA, so they gave up!   What's one of the most important things they don't know?

Just when you finally got it right -- "it isn't SAFE to go in the sun without sun screen," new research being published in the last few months is telling us that we've been wrong for a long time!  What?  How can that be?  Let's talk about what happens when you expose your bare skin to the suns rays!  Following exposure to the sun or other sources of UV-B radiation, such as tanning beds, your body will produce Vitamin D!  So what does that mean for your goals of optimum health?
